Hotel Deauville, This hotel isnnt smart or luxurious and leaves quite a lot to be desired on the aesthetic front, but it has one of the best views in Havana. It overlooks the wide sweep of the Malecon, a huge expanse of ocean and the romantic Morro Castle and its famous lighthouse. The lobby is painted in tones of peach and terracotta and has rather loathsome sixties-style banquettes. The semi-pornographic wooden sculptures flanking the front desk certainly take onees mind off check-in delays but can provoke embarrassing questions from outspoken offspring. Hotel has been very recently renovated. It is, excellently located for exploration of Old and modern Havana and there are good views of the city from its rooftop pool terrace. On the first floor there is a restaurant called Carta Nostraa, stylishly decorated with tables facing the sea. The hotel is still operated by Spanish company Hotetur, although ownership was recently transfered from Horizontes to Gran Caribe.
